In the end it didn’t matter, for this is Twitter, where the atmosphere- thanks in no small measure to the president’s own inflammatory contributions- always leans toward toxic. Front and center at the inauguration on national TV, Barron has also been the subject of online rumors that he has autism or Asperger’s syndrome.Ĭould Rich’s tweet be a clear violation of a comedy code? That you leave the kids out of it? Was she punching up at an authority figure, or down at a child? Could part of the problem be that Barron is not homeschooled, but reportedly attends a private school on the Upper West Side? Or, on the contrary, was Rich’s tweet in fact a cleverly constructed dig at our Narcissist in Chief, a man so venal he could incite his own kid to violence? She meant Barron Trump, the 10-yearold son of Trump and wife Melania, the youngest and by far least visible of Trump’s five children from three marriages. She tossed out a joke about the president’s kid that would soon live in social media infamy: “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.”
